Great colleagues and flexible hours, but poor leadership

Pros

- There are a lot of great people working here who are very knowledgeable, kind, creative, and always happy to help. - KEH has flexible working hours and allows employees to choose from one of three shift options.

Cons

- The current CEO has absolutely killed the company culture since he took control of the company. He lacks any ability to communicate or lead effectively. With each consecutive company wide meeting he gets progressively more unhinged and incoherent, leading many employees to worry and question his abilities. He is also deep in the throes of AI psychosis and is attempting to force it into use where it has no applicable uses yet. - Leadership goes all in on ideas without thinking them through or asking for opinions from people whom it would directly affect, often punishing people for bringing up concerns. This leads to a lot of backtracking and quick fixes down the line for issues that should have been obvious from the start. - Leadership lacks the ability to effectively communicate to their employees changes within the company, leading each supervisor and manager to handle things differently. - Pay is poor and well below competitive in the Metro Atlanta market. - Very little PTO and sick leave available for employees. - There is a general culture of fear in the company as many people are afraid to bring up concerns due to the company's history of punishing those who do bring up concerns.

Pros

- Company culture is friendly - Many knowledgeable employees with years of experience

Cons

- Little pay for heavy workload - Issues from previous worker are inherited - There is a lack of organization within the company when it comes to providing support for the battery department. - Communication between what is expected vs. what is realistically possible to complete could be better

Pros

Legacy employees and great inventory.

Cons

The leadership just keeps getting worse. They don't know anything about photography and they really don't know anything about people.

Diverse culture overshadowed by profit focus and management issues

Pros

KEH has one of the most diverse and collaborative workplace cultures I’ve had the opportunity to be part of, and it has genuinely made me a better person because of it. Employees across departments are willing to help however they can, and there is a tremendous amount of talent, experience, and passion throughout the company. Many people here care deeply about photography, customer service, and supporting one another, which makes KEH a rewarding place to work in many respects.

Cons

Since the company owner stepped into the CEO role, the culture has shifted noticeably toward prioritizing profitability over what many employees feel is best for photographers and the broader photography community. While every business needs to be profitable, there are times when it feels like that focus comes at the expense of company culture, employee morale, and long-term relationships with customers. There has also been an extremely heavy focus on AI initiatives internally. In recent company meetings, a significant portion of the discussion has revolved around AI, often in ways that feel disconnected from the day-to-day operational challenges employees are facing. I have personally experienced situations that I would consider part of a hostile or unhealthy work environment. Unfortunately, I did not feel confident that reporting these concerns through HR would result in meaningful protection or resolution, which discouraged me from speaking up. The company would benefit greatly from stronger management training, leadership development, and a renewed emphasis on respectful communication and employee treatment.

Pros

The environment at KEH is generally supportive and enjoyable, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and respect. Day-to-day interactions with both the retail team and management are smooth. Leadership is approachable and easy to work with. For the most part, the job feels fair in terms of expectations, workload, and treatment of employees.

Cons

After working here for two years, I have yet to see a clear path or opportunity to transition into a full-time role, which has been discouraging. The systems and tools we use could definitely benefit from upgrades. Speed and organization are lacking, which can affect productivity and efficiency.
