NOT a good place for creatives or show biz folks

Pros

Stable, predictable, and nice in the extreme. They've been around a long time doing the same kind of show for the same kind of clients (big tech and medical). So if you have little creative ambition and will be happy in a suburban office environment (CA office), this might be a good fit. Even the NY and Chicago offices rarely land projects outside the big tech vacuum. The baseline IVC (InVision Communications) project is a 2 hour keynote presentation in a ballroom...one stage, two screens. If producing that kind of show will be enough for your career goals then this is your shop.

Cons

Weak leadership and inexperienced management. Most of the key players in this company have been there literally for decades, and many have had no production experience outside of IVC. Many of the large accounts are 10+ years old as well. IVC caters to a market with a low appetite for risk and change, and this mindset filters down through all departments. They often talk of wanting to evolve and take risks, but no one is willing to make changes...including the top brass doing the talking about making changes. At the middle management levels the company is basically run like a sorority house, with a lot of non-confrontational infighting and whispered criticisms. Several employees spoke of this condition as a years-long constant. They have a strong dislike of direct feedback, and a toxic reaction to critique or debate. You are only encouraged to say nice things sweetly at IVC. If you ruffle anyone's feathers you will likely be ostracized and shown the door...and of course no real creative work or evolution can take place in that kind of environment. IVC only wants very nice, non-confrontational people on their team, regardless of talent or experience. All others aren't around for long.

Thank you for your review. There are a few items we’d like to clarify. Our evolution over the past 26 has expanded well beyond just the production within the ballroom; we continue to focus more on design and strategy projects with current and new clients. Our NY and Chicago offices have more Life-Sciences clients than Technology, due to proximity to client headquarters. Many of our clients are Fortune 500 and their culture and approach is something we adapt to in how we support their businesses. We know we can’t always be the most creative or leading-edge technologically with every client. What we are doing is making the most of the opportunities we have by pushing boundaries and sharing best practices with other clients in order to drive innovation for them.

Pros

I'll hopefully be getting out of InVision soon.

Cons

I think that this company started to go downhill long before COVID, but COVID has just amplified all of InVision's faults, which are too numerous to list. If you're coming from a company with a competent HR department, I think that you'll probably be very disappointed here. InVision seems to settle for average in every way. I think that the creative output is often pretty meh. They’ve unfortunately lost who I consider to be some of their best talent over the last couple of years. And people who have been at this company forever seem to be immune to criticism or reprimand. The vibe can be very cliquey... kind of like the worst parts of High School merged together. I would seriously pass on this company if I were you.

Thank you for your comment, we can only get better with honest feedback. We are in very challenging times and if you are not happy at InVision we have always been very open to seeing if there are ways to make your experience better or support you with finding other opportunities. First step, we wish you would reach out to us (me) so that we can learn from your experience to make it better for others. We are so proud of what our team has accomplished over the past 3 plus months. It has been very challenging work and the team has supported each other so we can help our clients' through these evolving times. Thank you, Drew Hagen

Pros

PERKS: -Lots of travel (could be a pro or con, depending on your approach). -Employees are trusted with company credit cards. -Kitchen is full of snacks and beverages. -Offices are modern and welcoming. -Yearly offsite conference is ritzy and lavish. CULTURE: -In-office celebrations like birthdays, bridal/baby showers and engagement get-togethers are fun and frequent if you have time to participate. -Lots of happy hours outside the office. -Group dinners occur after hours onsite during live events too. LEARNING / DEVELOPMENT: -Entry-level employees are given many opportunities to experience and learn. -All team members are welcome to explore new roles or take on more responsibility within their current roles. ACCESSIBILITY / TRANSPARENCY: -C-Suite and executives are willing to talk and listen (as is evident in their Glassdoor responses) -Monthly meetings provide a lot of intel on company revenue, profit, recent work and shifts in structure BONUSES / PROFIT-SHARING: -They exist.

Cons

QUALITY: -Work lacks genuinely innovative creative. -New business pitches and longstanding accounts are lost because of it. COMPENSATION -Challenging for young, talented employees to obtain timely promotion and and earn appropriate compensation. BENEFITS -High deductibles for medical care -Parental leave is disappointing for an agency that claims to support flexibility for working parents

Thank you for feedback. We appreciate your honesty. We make it a priority to create an inclusive work culture, from hosting celebrations to keeping the lines of communication open between leadership and employees. It’s great to know you experienced this during your time here and we hope you found it valuable. We acknowledge your concerns around growth opportunities and compensation challenges, so we regularly benchmark our salaries to be competitive within our industry and work across the management team to create career paths for each department. As you mentioned, we highly encourage employees to explore other roles and gain new skillsets within their roles, which we hope is additive to their career. We are an industry leader in providing new and innovative solutions to our existing and longstanding wonderful clients. The team works hard everyday to bring new ideas to our clients even if they are not asking for them. We are also aware of challenges employees face with out of pocket healthcare costs and constantly evaluate new plan options. We try to balance employee needs both by office location and our own out of pocket costs to continue providing many options to select from including several HMO plans that InVision pays 100% coverage for all full-time staff, we also offer and fund HSA accounts, for those that choose a PPO plan and have tax free commuter and child care accounts. We also benchmark our coverage offering and we offer much better plans than the majority of our competition, not to mention our amazing 401K matching program. Historically, our best talent comes from word-of-mouth or personal references. Our recruitment process is focused on broadening our diversity and talent pool across multiple disciplines that would benefit our company and our clients. We have recently expanded and reorganized our resource management team to lead that charge.
