Pros

There are very many advantages to working at Formlabs GmbH in Berlin, Germany. Formlabs is a unique company, so it is difficult to summarise, but I think the following are the most important to note: 1. Working as part of any team (be it Sales, Customer Care, Marketing, Engineering, etc.) is interesting, challenging and rewarding. Formlabs itself is a young company, however it has quickly established itself as the leader in desktop 3D printing in Europe and the U.S. Because of this, work is fast-paced and exciting. 2. Training is clear, concise and down-to-earth: Those like myself, who are not strong in Mathematics or Sciences, need not worry - certain colleagues deliver training sessions, which are arranged according to your schedule and how comfortable/capable you feel regarding the topic. They are very understanding too, and are quick to lend a helping hand outside of training times to make sure you feel confident with what your role requires. 3. Horizontal management means your voice gets heard, and you have a say in how challenges should be faced. Supervisors and management also take your concerns and feedback seriously, and genuinely do their best to accommodate everybody. 4. Correct work/life balance: Although the volume of work in all departments may at times be relatively higher than at others, supervisors and management recognise that rest is just as important as work, and will regularly regularly remind you to take breaks. You also have the option of working from home at any stage, should you feel sick or need to be at home for whatever reason. 5. Great atmosphere and culture: Despite its quick growth, Formlabs has managed to maintain its unique atmosphere of an open, honest and diligent office. Colleagues are from all over Europe and the wider world, as well as from many, many different backgrounds. Formlabs nourishes this diversity, and colleagues take an active interest in one another. There are regular parties, team events, outings and trips abroad - and everybody is welcome. 6. Real opportunity to further your career: Due to Formlabs' young, open culture and its horizontal management, role changing is entirely possible. This does not always mean taking on more responsibility however, but can also mean changing your position and department altogether, depending on what it is you want to do. For example, I have seen colleagues move from Customer Care roles to Engineering/Research roles, others move from Sales to HR and vice versa, etc. 7. Formlabs provides you with your own equipment: new laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and anything else you need. You also have your own desk and a lot of space. Kitchens are stocked weekly with fruit, nuts, tea, coffee and other snacks, and lunch is served for free in office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. 8. The Berlin office is not only clean and comfortable to work in, but also well located at just 3 tram stops from Alexanderplatz, and 2 from S-Bahn Greifswalder Str.

Cons

Sincerely, I cannot say I have experienced any disadvantage or discomfort while working at Formlabs GmbH.

Pros

Free snacks and meals, cool office for the most part. You can learn from some smart people. Free 3D printing is nice but gets old after a year unless you're a maker.

Cons

Toxic workplace full of micromanagement and over-control. C Suite makes all decisions and does not empower dept. leadership. If you want to give a $1000 raise, the C Suite must approve. You get little to no autonomy to make any decisions. The company does not care about the customer beyond getting the sale. The products do not last and often have systematic issues out of the box; engineering just shrugs, and no REAL improvements take place. Incredibly clique-ish place where you're either "in" or "out" and if you're "out", you're treated like Harry Potter under the staircase. The CEO aspires to be Elon Musk and rules like a tyrant, openly embarassing employees in meetings, has no EQ. Little to no diversity in leadership as well. C Suite is just trying to cash out in IPO and they do not care if they have to turn it into ashes in the process. Can't wait for HR to come and reply and gaslight some more and tell folks how this isn't real.

Pros

People people people. Really fun group. Unlimited vacation is great, food at work will make you full all the time. Lots of 3d printers to play with. You can learn a lot here. The people are the biggest pro by far. Everyone is really nice and insanely smart. This is a great place to be if you want to work with some very smart folks. The hours in some departments are super flexible (mostly in engineering, sales and customer facing roles are more structured).

Cons

-Notice that a lot of these reviews come in spurts. That is because Formlabs has someone email the company/go around asking for reviews. "We can win an award if we get so many reviews blah blah blah". These reviews are not organic. -Notice that many of the reviews are written by people who have been with the company for less than a year. They haven't seen the repeated issues. -Pay is low. -Very nepotistic at the top. -If you don't have a manager that campaigns for you, good luck. -Limited/inconsistent opportunities for mentorship and real growth. -A good place for a few years out of college, but might not be the best long term career. -CEO is super chummy with some folks, and gruff with the majority.

Thank you for the detailed feedback. We do read every review that comes through Glassdoor and it's important to us to know where we excel, and where we need to improve. Our recent internal survey has led to a myriad of changes (including upwards manager feedback sessions, ect.). Growth and career development are things we are actively working to improve and evolve as we expand. We do ask new, current and veteran employees to review us on Glassdoor and we welcome them to share their experiences here honestly. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. - People Ops
