Pros

Great writing opportunities, awesome to be able to work from home.

Cons

There is absolutely no communication between employees, management, and the CEO. So many tasks, requests, etc. fell through the cracks and even got employees in trouble many times. There were also many irate clients that were understandably upset that their requests had been ignored due to lack of communication. The management changed frequently, which made everyone's jobs more stressful and even more difficult to communicate. I would be contacted at all hours of the day and night regarding different miscommunications and errors that happened that workday, which made a work/life balance very difficult. I never felt like I could "leave."

DO NOT WORK HERE

Pros

Work from home, I guess is the only good thing.

Cons

Julia McCoy is a terrible boss. She takes advantage of everyone she hires. She pays so little. She hires people from the US, but also from other countries to pay even less. She has a saint complex where she thinks she's the most wonderful person in the world and I believe all her life story (which she continuously monetizes) is all a lie. As other bad reviews had said here: the deadlines are absolutely awful, you are paid less that you are worth and communication is absolutely terrible. While I worked here my stress was so high that I felt physical pain. I kept going to doctors and no one knew what was happening to me. It was the stress, just that. All my pain disappeared when I stopped working for Julia McCoy and Express Writers.

Pros

They go above and beyond, more than I can say for any other writing agency I’ve been at, in creating resources and giving them to their writer team. I benefitted a ton from their individual writing training and the in-depth, careful, painstaking reviews from the editorial team. They seem to want to make sure critique is fair. I’ve seen some editors go ballistic in their comments, and then that editor wasn’t around anymore. I really appreciate how they protect the writers and work in their interest. I read through some of the reviews on this page and they are just crazy. If you write well and you’re on time, you get paid fairly, you get more work, and if you miss the target you get more chances to improve with a ton of fair, thorough feedback.

Cons

More communication between leaders and writers would be awesome. I understand that you’re running a busy place and that’s not always possible, but just an idea.
