Pros

There are some really great consultants on the team and have been able to build many great relationships with everyone. Most projects are staffed with an architect and lead per workstream, so you are never alone. Because you are staffed on so many projects, you are exposed to many different types of configuration and setup so you can quickly learn new things. Benefits are good for a smaller company.

Cons

If you are in HCM Core or Payroll, you can be staffed on 3-4 projects, or 5-7 for the smaller modules. Although the customers are "medium enterprise", the projects are large in scope and often in 5+ countries (you will be expected to meet at all hours of the day). The Payroll and PMO teams are rather green, which was a little shocking coming from a larger partner firm where those two teams are typically the strongest and most tenured. Many of the deals coming in are very complex, either from being global, needing advanced workday functionality, or tighter and quicker timelines. Since it's a workday only partner firm, there aren't many other career opportunities outside of consulting. There isn't any bench time, so work/life balance is non-existent.

Pros

• If you are looking for a place to jump start your Workday career and build up your resume, this is the place but this comes with a price. • You will meet great people and form friendship sometimes beyond Topbloc.

Cons

I hate to say this... but the cons outweigh the pros. • As I’ve mentioned above, it’s a good place to jump start your Workday career and build up your resume but this means that there is little to no work/life balance even though management is very much aware of this problem. With that being said, this place is a great steppingstone but many leave after a year or 2. • Management seems to have the mentality that hiring more people would help solve this issue but not considering the high turnover rate. This place is a revolving door resulting in additional stress for managers and team members as management tries to dump more work to employees. • Promotions seem to be based on time and not performance, great for some but this is setting up some employees to fail as they are not ready for more responsibilities. • Inefficient at staffing and resourcing projects. • While you do meet great people and form friendship, I find that it gets very cliquey all the way up to management. • I find that management does not truly value their employee feedback, many are overworked/burnt out and while they mention these issues in meetings... nothing is truly being done to fix this. • With such a young environment, I find that there are very little people with years of experience especially in payroll. • Topbloc does not offer fair base salary especially for experienced consultants, compensation is below market especially compared to other partner firms. • Bonus structure is great to some extent, if you value personal time off with family, friends, and for your own sanity, this is not the place to be. Bonus is based amount of hours worked. The more you slave away, the more bonus you get… Great opportunity for those who are new to Workday as you spend time learning but unfair to those who are experienced. What would take an experience consultant 15 mins could take someone new 1 hr. • Topbloc offers unlimited PTO but you’ll find yourself not able to truly take time off because you are swamp with work. Your manager will make an effort to ‘remind’ you to take time off but with 6+ projects at a time… it’s impossible to find time. • Good benefits for someone who is single and not as great for people with families. There is no 401k match.

Great place to begin your career but not sustainable long-term

Pros

TopBloc is an excellent Workday partner in the ecosystem to start your career as a Workday consultant. The organization has developed tools that accelerate tenant builds and further invests in product development to continue maximizing and shortening deployment timelines. With that said, timelines are often sold between 4-6 months (sometimes even less) for phase 1 projects; add to the fact that most consultants are staffed upwards on 10 projects and PMs on 5-6, resourcing is extremely thin in order to meet these fast deployment cycles, which leads to burnout, project fatigue, etc. Overall, the pros to TopBloc include the benefits package (employees pay $0 premiums with pretty decent plans), a 401k match (up to 2%) and, if you're looking to get a ton of project experience, this is the place for you!

Cons

In general, there has been quite the turnover in senior resources over Q1 of 2021. Senior consultants and project managers are exiting the organization due to a plethora of reasons, including: 1) resources are over allocation/stretched thin (see note in the pros section regarding # of projects for each type of delivery consultant) 2) there are inexperienced leaders driving the organization 3) lack of investment/coaching for management (senior consultants / PMs are often promoted as people managers, but do not receive management training (other than a quick 30 minute intro into 'you're a manager now') AND are still often billing 40+ hours, which means there is not time for them to support the team 4) greener team members join the organization (which is great to expand the ecosystem, however, formal training / mentorship is not provided, therefore, many resources are set up for failure) 5) HR sends wellness check/pulse surveys on a monthly basis (which, appears that they are curious and welcome to incorporating feedback), however, these surveys are explicitly issued through Workday. As a Workday certified company, resources are not comfortable submitting honest feedback in a tool that is not truly anonymous. Each month, employees ask if we can move to an anonymous tool, however, leadership declines. This 100% states that they do not care and/or does not want the honest truth.
