There is a lack of accountability for managers, and this directly influences the company culture, an opinion shared by many. In my case, a sudden change in team management completely altered my experience, despite consistently delivering strong outcomes. I believe the new manager had a personal issue with me. My goal was always to perform well and maintain autonomy in my work, but when this manager took over, every detail was micromanaged. I no longer had the space to make decisions or think independently, as everything had to align with their vision, which was often flawed. I strongly feel the tension was personal rather than job-related.
I reached out to upper management for support, but there was no avenue for resolution. Despite my history of positive performance reviews, I was left to handle the situation alone. This ultimately led to my decision to leave. At commercetools, I encountered the worst manager of my career, which is particularly disappointing given my experience working with many skilled, qualified, and authentic leaders in the past.
In conversations with former colleagues, several shared similar experiences with this manager, reinforcing my belief that the issue was not unique to me.
