Pros

There are absolutely none about this company. After learning more I would not recommend this to anyone!

Cons

The Yahoo Sports Customer Care Agent role quickly realized the structure of this job is extremely misleading and exploitative. Although they list it as a 1099 contractor position, you're assigned a set schedule, expected to work full-time hours, and follow strict guidelines—and you are a W-2 employee without any of the protections or benefits. No health insurance, no paid time off, no taxes covered. You're on the hook for all of it, while they avoid any responsibility and get the work out of you cheap in hopes of a full time role they dangle in front of your face. They reserve the right to cut your hours or terminate you at ANY time if they feel your "performance" isn't up to their expectations, with no job security or feedback loop. It’s a revolving door. Even if you work 40 hours a week, you’re still technically a contractor, which seems like a legal gray area at best. This setup allows them to get full-time labor for cheap without offering the basics any legitimate employer should. I strongly advise others to think twice before pursuing this role. It may sound like a flexible gig, but you're at their mercy every step of the way—with zero stability or protection.

Pros

Relatively easy to get things done for a company with such a long history. Certainly not "start up" like, but processes like resource allocation have less overhead than working at a company like Google. Pay was pretty good for the midwest. I hear they are currently pretty open to remote work. It's also not the hardest place to work.

Cons

Opportunities are limited in software engineering. Since Apollo took over, SE was viewed mostly under the lens of "what is the least we can invest here to get the job done". There used to be a really good office in Champaign with lots of very talented software engineers put together. That's gone now.
