Pros

Like any public accounting firm there is a defined career path and a steep learning curve so there are decent opportunities when you leave. Also for the first year or two they do a really good job of keeping up appearances of being a good place to work.

Cons

Always understaffed at the key levels so you will be pushed to do more advanced work than you have the experience or skill set to handle. There is lip service paid to acknowledging your hard work, but no actual help or recognition. When you burn out, and you will, there is no acknowledgment that you were set up for failure. There are technically job descriptions, but they never are accurate. As in managers should be starting to lead large and complex jobs that I was doing as a staff just before being promoted to senior. You will be set up to fail and as the business model is based on exploitation of staff so they talk about hiring new people, they never do. In my cohort of staff and seniors 7% said we’d recommend Wipfli as a great place to work and 0% said that we felt if we contributed to wipfli’s success we’d be recognized.

Pros

I think that even for a job where you expect to work the crazy long hours during busy season, Wipfli does a great job at showing they care about the well-being of their employees during this time. I have constantly had different individuals throughout Wipfli reach out to me during busy season to see how I was doing mentally. Knowing that individuals care is a big part in being able to get through a stressful time of the work year. The catered lunches we receive during this time is also another example of showing that the Company cares about the well-being of their employees. It gives each office a great time to enjoy some quality lunches and bring social interaction to each of the offices. I also think Wipfli is a great Company to work for outside of busy season, when the hours slow down and work is less stressful. It's encouraged to take time off, reset, and enjoy the summer weather. Wipfli understands that everyone needs to hit the reset button after a long, stressful period of time. I interned the summer before I started full-time as an associate, and sometimes Employers during internships like to play-up the Company and not always show it's true colors. I can honestly say that during my time as an intern and when I started full-time this year, the way I have been treated, the culture, the workplace environment, and the overall caring of Wipfli has been consistently great the entire time.

Cons

Like any job in public accounting, the hours are long and they can be stressful.
