Pros
The story and the potential of doing something big that makes a difference throughout the world. With the idea being sparked in an African health clinic (during the midst of a UC Berkeley PhD program), there is a deeper woven fabric holding the people together than the average Bay Area startip. Furthermore, beyond the company value of "democratizing data access", there is a real chance to be the company that walks the heavily regulated industries out of the paper age and into the digital over the next 10 years which is exciting - and has the chance to be highly profitable. There is a ton of work which provides opportunity to step up within your role and advance quickly. There is now a great office, catered meals, and most important, a group of smart, diverse, and fun individuals you get to call your colleagues and friends. And for frosting on the cake, the Captricity.org initiative which gives grants (heavily discounted use of the product) to nonprofits around the world keeps the team humbled and aligned with its original vision.
Cons
Depending on function, there is some room for improvement when considering salary divided by hours worked, even though it's a startup, but I would note there are signs of this improving as we grow. Other than that, while highly transparent it can get better (see below).
