Pros
Overall, everyone is kind and supportive. Every year, the contingent faculty gets slightly better. As a small school, people are seen as relevant, vs how many feel like a cog in big research universities. Even though I am contingent faculty, I occasionally receive support to attend conferences.
Cons
As contingent faculty, it remains hard to get a raise. Even if my reviews are better than most, neither my status nor my pay changes accordingly, which is difficult long-term (both emotionally and financially unsustainable). Not being a full part of the school means that I am hobbled insofar as providing my ideal quality of support to students and fellow colleagues alike. I strongly believe that trade off is not worth the University's savings or my commitment.
