Pros
I worked for Trailfinders for just over 10 years and had a ball. Travelled the world for virtually nothing, made plenty enough to support my family & pay the mortgage but more importantly, met the most amazing people who will remain friends for life. If like me you love travel and enjoy the company of like minded people, you’ll be hard pushed to find better. Like all jobs, it’s not for everyone, but you will definitely gain the best training and travel industry knowledge which served me well when I decided to move on. Overall Trailfinders is a great place to work if you put the effort in. Great people, great money and great benefits, you just need to follow the highly formulaic company way.
Cons
This is not an easy job, You work hard here and days are often long and full on. The company structure has changed very little with the changing times and things like working from home and flexible working practices are pretty much non existent. Corporate structure and hierarchy has also remained unchallenged for decades, so where many travel firms have actively embraced these new practices, Trailfinders have continued with their “tried and tested” formula. I’m not sure they’ll be able to prosper fully with this philosophy in the new post pandemic world. There are lots of jobs around at the moment and people are becoming switched on to the benefits of a good work/life balance. Getting a day off or swapping shifts should be easy - if the majority of companies can manage it, so can Trailfinders. While new technology has boosted many companies sales offering internet bookings & other powerful online tools, Trailfinders has remained old school. I’m not convinced the telephone is the future. Surely there’s a way to combine the expertise of a human travel consultant and the ease of booking a trip from your phone at midnight on a Sunday over Christmas? That’s what I want.
