Pros
Strong organisational culture driven and led by the people. The level of camaraderie is unique! People are smart and know their space but are open to working with others towards a common goal. It's the people that make this place stick - they're real, they don't talk fluffy and they genuinely care for one another. Sendle is definitely a place that challenges you to think outside the box and get resourceful to help make things happen and get stuff done. It's not a place for those who want to work under the radar, as most of the time YOU are the only expert in your space. The team is very ambitious - they work hard and what might seem like a small win is always celebrated as a team. On top of everything, it's fun! The people are friendly, thoughtful and genuine.
Cons
The challenge with big ambitious aspirations is having a strong and inspiring strategy that aligns to purpose and culture that supports it, and unfortunately from experience Sendle is still learning what this means for them. As a fast growing start-up, they are experiencing many firsts and so it can be quite challenging to keep pace or think beyond the next three months. It can also sometimes feel quite siloed and unless you are in a front-facing role that impacts product, system or customer experience, it's very difficult to raise the visibility and urgency of your space and priorities. I have also experienced that unless your work is visible by those who matter, you merely become another cog in the wheel. The business hires incredibly smart and experienced individuals, who at times do not get the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills or share their opinion without the fear of criticism. But on the other end of the spectrum, if you are one of the few who gets the opportunity to share ideas and opinions, you are then inundated with so much responsibility that it can feel quite overwhelming. I also feel that an employee's experience is highly dependent on location, function and leader. It is not consistent across all. Leadership needs A LOT of work and it needs to start right from the top. Something needs to change.
