Pros

My job as a Personal Banker was helping people set up basic banking things like accounts, visas, lines of credit, some mortgages. Interesting at times and interacting with clients could be fun. Good work hours - my branch was 8am-4.30pm M-F but some branches have long Thursdays and Saturday hours which I would not have liked. Nice co-workers.

Cons

Low, low pay. I was making $38,950 which is OK and competitive with other banks but not other fields of work. TONS of paperwork for every little thing. Management was inconsistent - managers weren't hired because of their management abilities but because it is the next step in career progress after Financial Advisors - so 1 manager was awesome, approachable, friendly, and another was mean, belittling, and would micromanage the hell out of us. I was encouraged to downplay the good, basic accounts like regular chequing or No-Fee Visas and focus on "upselling" more expensive banking products even to people who didnt need them.

Pros

A couple of smart people who are kind and open to mentoring. Hours not bad given no deal flow in US.

Cons

Top heavy management. Culture values heavy politicking. Low bonuses.
