Pros

Not much as this point. We do have meeting free Fridays (unless someone more senior wants a meeting with you).

Cons

The company has some great individual contributors, but probably the worst management I’ve ever witnessed. That’s not an exaggeration. The last two years, the company has changed its strategy and structure three times. Three rounds of lay-offs in three years. Each time “promising” that they have learned from their mistakes and that it won’t happen again unless the company takes some drastic economic hits. Speaking of, the company doesn’t share results with the staff, only with a select few individuals. So we have no way of knowing how we’re actually doing vs forecast. Great strategy for management to be able to spin the results however they want to. Come new year, it will be two years with no salary increases. Actually, they’re doing the opposite: they’re laying off people and offshoring to Lisbon simply so they can pay less in salaries. I know of employees who’ve had to interview and hire someone in Lisbon, train the new employee as part of the team, and then be laid off just for the newly trained employee to replace them. The part that bothers me the most is the hypocrisy. Management always talks about being a company that puts people first, and that they’re going to take care of their employees when they’re being laid off. This is the furthest thing from the truth. A short story: Salsify acquired Alkemics (a French company), and a year later they laid off all senior staff and the founder of Alkemics. You could say that’s just business, and I would agree, but this next part isn’t: they decided to never internally announce or acknowledge that the Alkemics founder was laid off. Employees only found out by speaking directly with the founder or through word of mouth. I can keep going about all the bad practices I’ve witnessed at this company, mainly due to management, but I’ll leave it at that. The last thing I want to say is avoid this company like the plague. Unless the founders step away and real leaders come in, this company is going to fail. I’m not even touching the stock options I have, as it’s probably the worst investment I could make.

Thank you for sharing your feedback - we take it seriously and value your perspective. While we respect your experience of the Alkemics founders leaving, please know that each founder took part in planning out how they wanted the process to go. As you may or may not know, French employment laws are quite different than the US, and we are often restricted in ways that can make our normal communications more challenging for us. Of course, we can always improve and appreciate the feedback so that we can do better with future communications.
