Ross NYBO is not a nice place to work - Merchant Support Associate MSA Ross Stores Employee Review

Pros

Located near Times Square

Cons

Extremely predjudice against people of color. Especially males. If hired at all they don’t last long unless they work in the mailroom. MSA’s are constantly subject to being targeted by mgmt until they quit or fired. Buyers tend to be nasty to MSA who do their admin work. Nothing is ever done to protect the MSA. Anything told to HR with promised confidence is repeated to mgmt with consequences. One of the lowest paying companies for the same position in NYC. People are fired for almost nothing. People are encouraged to apply for higher positions and then insulted when told that they did not get it. Only to see the girlfriend of the best friend of one of the most loved managers get the job.

Pros

All of my coworkers were wonderful. No high school drama. Boss was flexible and understanding, although he always liked it if you said you could work more hours. The employee discount is pretty awesome. The work wasn't bad and rude customers were rare.

Cons

There was pressure to come in even when you were sick. Pay wasn't the greatest; it usually stayed ahead of minimum wage, but by no means kept up with inflation. Visits from corporate often meant a new change in procedures that had been working and demands that were somewhat unreasonable given the constraints of the layout or number of employees available.
