Inept management has little to no accountability and trickles down within their organizations. The same management team lacks direction, focus and a cohesive strategy. Teams work in silos, and one department usually has no clue what another department is doing. Very few formal processes in place (that are actually adhered to by all departments). Obvious power struggles exist between executives and upper management. The result? Everyone goes off and does his own thing. I say his, because there are very few females or minorities included within the "inner circle" of the executive team. As more employees leave, positions are left vacant for long periods of time (if ever filled), and the workloads are passed off to the already overworked staff (who actually do try to do as much as they can). Management's expectations of completing projects/tasks is totally unrealistic - everything is always last minute and needed "tomorrow," Since many departments are short staffed and overworked, employees have little time to deliver, and the end product is usually satisfactory at best. The performance review process (if you want to call it that) is a joke. Some managers conduct reviews one way while others do it another way, while others don't even bother. Many employees have no idea what type of pay raise and/or bonus they will receive until after the fact. No one that I know takes these reviews seriousl, because managers are so unorganized and wait until the very last minute. Clearly, management is more concerned about what the board members and share holders think than they do about their employees. Maybe that's why the company has lost many of their best people over the past few years?
