Pros

Large international organization. Lots of room for growth but only if you are pro-active and network appropriately with senior management. It helps if you are European or has European connections. A pro is that some of the products Philips sells are very innovative and interesting, not just in Medical Systems but other divisions such as Lightings and Electronics. I was a heavy and loyal users of Philips products while I was with the company. I still see the organization has very good potential to be very successful in the future if it is run and management properly.

Cons

A lot of politics. A very Euro-centric organization, even for subsidiaries in the U.S. - there are a lot of expats running the show. Organization is still very old-minded and not flexible to bend with the time. Culture is influenced by a lot of old guards - if you want to get things done, you tend to run into people with very narrow tunnel vision, and who refuses to look at big pictures to solve problems, or run into people who just view their job as a 9 to 5 job without sense of ownership.

Pros

Philips still has good people, meaningful healthcare technology, and a strong brand name. Many employees care deeply about the customers, the products, and doing quality work.

Cons

The company culture has gone downhill. Management has become increasingly reliant on spreadsheet-driven decision making that often has little connection to real field conditions, employee workload, or customer impact. Priorities and goals change constantly, creating a desperate, reactive environment where employees are not given enough time to adjust before leadership shifts direction again. Morale suffers because teams are expected to execute against moving targets while leadership treats unrealistic planning as an execution problem.
