Basically, any review here from mid-2021 or before no longer applies, just look at all of the recent reviews about losing so many good people. Over the past 6-12 months, the vast majority of senior tech leadership has either quit or been asked to. In their place has been inserted top-down dictatorial leaders that want to take all of the technology decisions away from the engineers and make them themselves. What you end up with is Directors making decisions about what database technologies to use, what API contracts will look like, what languages/frameworks must be used, etc.. while simultaneously not having any vision for where to take the product in the future nor any understanding of how our company operated before they joined.
I used to really love the tight-knit, fast-paced, teamwork mentality that made Paylocity what it was, but that is now almost completely gone. Where we once had "bottom-up" decision making we now have power-hungry leadership poaching talent either from former companies they have worked (forming factions) or from other internal teams which ends up causing resentment and ultimately those people (the top talent) finding jobs elsewhere. It's sad to see a company where I'd hoped I'd end my career deteriorate SO fast. Oh, and apparently Waterfall is back? This is likely why we have been told to lower our hiring standards in interviews.
Also, there was once a focus on remote culture and getting the best tools to make us successful while remote. Now Zoom is being taken away and I'm sure Slack is next. Use your imagination as to what might be coming next.
