Interview
The interview process typically begins with a recruiter pre-screen to discuss the role, experience, and overall fit. From there, candidates usually meet with the hiring manager for a deeper conversation around their background, leadership style, and approach to the role. The next step is often interviews with one or two team members to better understand collaboration, technical experience, problem-solving, and how they would work within the team. Depending on the role and level, there may also be an additional round with a director-level leader to discuss broader impact, strategic thinking, and alignment with the organization’s goals.

Question 1
How do you balance roadmap delivery with technical debt and engineering improvements?
I applied online. I interviewed at Paylocity (Schaumburg, IL) in Jun 2026
Interview
The interview process started with 4 assessments. There were timed math, spatial awareness and reasoning assessments and an untimed behavioral assessment. From there I was contacted for a Microsoft teams interview with my recruiter. After that, there was an in-person interview with the hiring managers. I had a third interview on Teams, but I don't think that is normally the case. All in all the process was great, they made it easy and it went quickly. I never went more than 2 business days without hearing from someone.

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Paylocity (Lake Mary, FL) in May 2026
Interview

1. Initial conversation with the recruiter
2. Interview with the Hiring Manager
3. Interview with a Director
4. Final interview with a second Director
Each interviewer was direct, engaging, and respectful of my time. The conversations focused primarily on my professional background, relevant experience, and how my skills aligned with the requirements of the role. I appreciated that the interviewers were transparent about the position, expectations, and next steps throughout the process. The interviews felt like genuine conversations rather than interrogations, allowing me to clearly demonstrate my experience while also learning more about the opportunity.
