Pros

Great benefits, wonderful office culture, very thorough training, lots of resources for support if you have questions, team-oriented mentality

Cons

The starting pay is very low for what is expected of payroll specialists. There are nowhere near enough people to cover the amount of work, and they continue to dump more and more on their employees while refusing to allow overtime, so it is easy to get behind, which upsets the clients. Most of your day becomes taking calls for angry clients who can't get in touch with their dedicated specialist, which means your clients are then yelling at another specialist, and so on. When I started, it was a very client-centric environment and was about building relationships with your portfolio of clients and taking care of them. Now it is a glorified call center, but it is worse because it is like working in a call center and managing 300+ clients at the same time. I went home exhausted and upset every day. My supervisors did all they could to improve work conditions, but there was only so much they could do.

Pros

Paychex is a great company to work for. I’ve held multiple roles over 20+ years. There are always ups and downs, but for every position, manager, decision I disagree with, there are ten others that are outstanding.

Cons

It’s a large company with many opportunities to grow, but smaller companies may offer higher compensation.

Pros

Literally just being able to work fully remote, but not much else

Cons

Pay is ridiculously low for the expected effort and tasks needed to handle client sales and after sales nurturement. About 1/3 of sales team ever hits the monthly quota. You get 13% commissions of deal size which typical deal size is anywhere from $700-$1500, 13% of that is less than $200 gross for huge amount of work load per deal for the client to just end up canceling and commissions gets clawed back.
