Pros

A great mix of people, good facilities and a gorgeous building to work in. Good job security due to redeployment scheme.

Cons

No opportunity for local career progression. All roles above a G require travel across the council in your own car. NYC is massive, there's no way to work just in Northallerton as a standard office job making it seem like there's no way to take a step up to the next level role. This makes me think has my time at NYC come to an end due to not wanting to be driving to Harrogate, Selby, Scarborough when I live close to Northallerton.

Pros

Your experience will depend greatly on how cohesive and supportive your team is, which in turn is dependent on managerial experience, leadership qualities and proactive advocacy. Get this right and you're on to a winning formual.

Cons

There is a systemic lack of accountability across various functions, particularly within middle management and HR. Responsibility is frequently bypassed and avoided. The approach to DEI is superficial at best. Despite extensive mandatory training, there is a significant failure to support staff. Their handling of sensitive information is deplorable, and meetings lack integrity. Business decisions often appear to be based on professional relationships rather than merit, with requirements appearing to be reverse-engineered to favour a preferred supplier, with the final valuation utilising the full extent of the allocated budget rather than market rate.
