Pros
35hr week 28 days leave with flexible options reasonable rates of pay Friendly atmosphere at lower management levels genuine attempts to deal with occupational sickness and health issues Potential to move within the company to gain rounded experience Rail Season Ticket 75% subsidy Good pension Very open to suggestions on safety and supportive of staff who stop work or challenge work methods on the basis of safety concerns. Good internal training opportunities
Cons
Would rather have a meeting than make a decision. Has ridged management processes which are overly bureaucratic. Employee performance management process is a farce. Internal company targets will not deliver the required outputs of the regulator. Tendency to bring in external "expert" directors who arrive with solutions; ie what their last company did. Sometimes Left hand does not appear to know right hand even exists let alone what it is doing. 35hr week can be a joke. in some roles it is more like 60hrs. IT and HR "support services" make you feel like you are supporting them. I would recommend NR to some friends, but not all this is not a company for everyone.
