Pros

Routine commuting, slow moving environment

Cons

Inefficiencies all over, substandard management, mixture of contractors with permanent staff influencing in all directions (both office jobs and site jobs), can never get anything done, massive inefficiencies and money lost due to those, lack of care for welfare, they’re creating work to justify their existence whilst fundamental work doesn’t get done due to incompetency. See Crossrail in the media, massively delayed and in need for additional £2B. HR cases mishandled, politicised sickening environment. Grievances hid under carpet, bullying culture if you stand up.

Thanks for sharing your experience at Network Rail and for pointing out the frustrations you'd encountered. We're working hard to remove bureaucracy through our Putting Passengers First programme. and this is providing lots of opportunity for devolved decision making. We'd hope that your experience today would be much different from what you may have encountered previously. Thanks again for your comments and we wish you all the very best for the future.

Systemic Bullying - Victims are the Losers

Pros

Some sort of pension scheme

Cons

HR do not act upon Grievance Finding of Systemic Bullying. Victims are side-lined, isolated and eventually made (by clever re-structuring) redundant. Managers close ranks. Very poor atmosphere in office - fear of 'rocking the boat'. Long hours, no lunch breaks, performance reviews doctored to be negative. Initiative and creativity definitely not wanted. Constant reorganisation, so having to apply for own job every 12-18 months. They don't see employees as assets only as liabilities. No training, no support, poor team work, no variety, no side-ways moves. Internal vacancies either 'closed shops' on unfillable.
