Pros
Possible to work on big projects and gain experience quickly. Opportunity to work on some decent shots for your reel. Most of the artists are nice people and the work is creatively rewarding. Paid OT.
Cons
Very low pay with little chance of a raise. Mismanagement of projects, schedules, and people. Sometimes it is like being in the twilight zone seeing junior artists given multiple insanely difficult and long shots that they are struggling with, while more senior artists are idle and begging for work. Deceptive practices to get employees to sign on or stay. Any verbal promises won’t be honored unless you can get it in writing and everything HR says should be taken with a big grain of salt. Corporate lip service to things like employee mental health when artists and coords are treated as numbers and not as people. People are always quitting or being replaced. 40-50% across departments have quit within the last year. This includes artists, supes, leads, coords, all of HR, immigration, and even the people in charge of employee retention. The company doesn’t care since they see everyone as replaceable but are blissfully ignorant that some of the people who left were saving them a lot of money with their specific skill sets.
