Pros

The people are too friendly and it is a collaborative culture.

Cons

- Professional growth is really non-existent. It depends if your manager wants to help you. If not your career is dead, the best thing to do is 2 years and leave if you don't get promoted. Mainly the problem is that you have employees of +10 years for such a small organization, while high turnover is not good, no turnover should not be acceptable either. Even though there are positions available, there is no culture of feedback and mentoring internally which makes employees bored because they feel they are not getting better. Similarly, Kiva loves to bring in external employees when there is good internal talent that doesn't feel valued because they are not even considered for the role. - Again, as there is no rotation, the mission is old school with a focus on traditional microfinance. Kiva has potential to innovate in financial inclusion and it is demotivating to see how the organization supports MFIs that are not as high impact. This is being seen in the loss of new borrowers over time, the new generations do not believe in microfinance as the solution to poverty. If Kiva would improve its impact investment strategy and promote employee growth, it would be the ideal place to work.
