Pros

Organization pursues a variety of new growth areas, which can lead to different role opportunities. There is a constant cycle of change on how teams are structured and operate, so that does allow for a variety of different experiences and learnings.

Cons

You may notice there are a decent amount of individuals who have been there either for decades or only a couple of years. I found out this is because the leadership is rather insular and they grew up together in the organization. They generally take credit for positive things that happen and then blame new people for the things that don’t go right. As such, you might use the organization as a stepping stone for a brief time, but there is so much risk that most newer individuals either leave the organization or are eventually used as a scapegoat and forced out of the organization. There is an underlying culture of fear in the organization, and if you are not fully aware of it at first, it’s because unfortunately, many of the individuals are not transparent, and despite appearing kind or generous, are only too willing to use newer individuals as a scapegoat when times are tough to protect themselves. It was the only organization I’ve worked for where no time of the day, nor holiday was off limits - be prepared to be available 24/7, for many roles within other organizations where they would never expect such.

Pros

Compensation is OK. There are some really nice people in the organization to work with, but you have to find them.

Cons

If you are not part of the SWC "club" (company name prior to them joining BDO), good luck. Poor leadership!!! Practice lead talks to everyone like they are talking to a CEO, not relatable in most cases. No clear employee development plans. You are held accountable for things completely outside of your individual control. They stress incorporating AI into work strategy, but have no plan on what that looks like or how to do it and want everyone to formulate it because leadership has no roadmap. One has no control over where you want to take your career, yet you are expected to know everything, about everything. As a result, you become an expert of nothing! Work assigned rarely leverages skills, almost as if they throw darts to see who works on what.
