Pros

I recently started working at AWS, and so far, I can tell I was brought into a great team. If you are reading reviews online about AWS or positions like mine, you may be torn between reviews like this one and others where the cons list is infinite. Where other current or former Amazonians are talking about their toxic workplaces - but this varies per site. Some sites focus on metrics and how many tickets you can resolve in a week, or even in a day; but that is not true for all sites or all teams. The management for my team has emphasized since my first day that we want to provide quality over quantity. We want to be customer obsessed and actually resolve the problem of the customer without rushing and cutting corners. I am more than happy with this position and the learning opportunity AWS has provided to me. However, this job is not for everyone, and you have to stay on your toes to move up and be successful (this is something that I am learning as I spend more time here). You need to put in the work, deep dive, learn to be curious, and also take ownership for mistakes you may commit along the way - and that is, unsurprisingly, not something all people are up for. I think this job is great so far, and the environment is very healthy. Workplace culture is great, and all the techs are very good at what they do and great at teaching and passing on their knowledge. Benefits are amazing at this company, and they provide an immense amount of support, especially if you get COVID and need to quarantine for a few days (speaking from personal experience).

Cons

The only con I would have for my current position is the "not so typical" work week schedule. I work 10 hrs. shifts, 4 days a week, during the front half of the week. This means my shift goes from Sun. to Wed., from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is not that bad once you become accustomed to it, but working on Sundays can be a little disappointing when you're used to working from Mon. to Fri. and having the weekends off. It takes some getting used to, and it's not the worst when you think of it. I still have 2 week days off where I can run errands and go to my appointments, and I have Saturdays to hang out with friends and family.

Pros

Really smart people, a lot of opportunity for growth, always encouraged to be innovative, think big, and create something new. Competitive salary and benefits with other major tech companies. 100% self motivating work environment. No dress code and 4 legged friends are welcome.

Cons

You have to be self motivated. NO ONE will hold your hand and tell you that you're doing a great job. If you need constant affirmations from management, this company isn't for you.
