Pros

Benefits are amazing. Actually offers some that are really unheard of like retirement plans, insurance is good, and 401 K match. This company makes some unmatched products that are life changing.

Cons

If you don’t have a white skin than forget promotion. They talk about commitment to Diversity but it is only talk they don’t put any resources/behind it. They don’t have KPI reporting on racial equity. It is all fluff. The board of the company is completely made up of white people. As if there is virtually none qualified people of color to be on the board. You will find people of color concentrated in manufacturing jobs with no chance of upward mobility. Most of the white collar job is for white people only. You have employees resources group but they don’t do much because poorly funded. Yes the only well funded employee resource group is the one that promotes career growth for White women.

Thank you taking the time to share your feedback, and I’m sorry your experience hasn’t been more positive. We are working hard to increase our focus and attention in this area. It’s one of the reasons I joined as Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer in the latter part of 2020. We’ve recently completed a global assessment of our Diversity and Inclusion practices to get a baseline understanding of our maturity landscape to help us prioritize our focus areas. We’ve also launched diversity metrics/KPIs for the ELT, held our first Global ERG Summit in February, and I’m in the process of adding three additional D and I resources to my team. With respect to promotions and other employment practices, Alcon is committed to ensuring equal opportunity for all associates. If you have reason to believe that any discrimination or unfair treatment may have occurred, I encourage you to notify the Ethics Helpline. I’d welcome the opportunity to discuss your feedback and experience further. Please feel free to reach out and connect with me directly. Sincerely, Kristen Weirick

Cons

Working here makes me want to unalive myself daily. It's a typical corporate environment with lots of rules and processes that do nothing for efficiency or production and are only applied to women, minorities, or high performers that carry the team but don't have the right anatomy, look, or last name for promotions and growth. But don't worry, if you have a family connection and absolutely no skills or intellect and like to schmooze but hate work you'll probably get promoted often and rapidly. Working here over the last several years has truly drained any previous ambition I entered the workplace with. The lack of work life balance and low pay contributes to a slow descent into a sloth like existence because I can no longer afford to do outside activities and barely pay my bills, and when I do have free time it's typically interrupted by some arbitrary coworker crash out over a minor inconvenience. I find myself taking on bad health habits to make it end sooner and because you'll need to conform to being chained to your desk and sitting at your desk at least 8 hours of the day to last. bathroom breaks-ha who needs those!
