Pros

During my employment at ATI I genuinely enjoyed being around my coworkers. I definitely would have made it a career. I had no trouble fitting in with my coworkers and had no trouble understanding the work we were doing. The engineers on site were friendly and not afraid to take the time to tour you around the plant to educate you on the alloys we worked with, as well as what they were used for once shipped out. Fortunately enough, ATI is big on safety, the safety culture however, is you either fit in or you don’t. As for insurance and benefits, it’s rather decent. The 401k match is generous, insurance covers a majority of medical treatments/trips which for a mom is quite nice!

Cons

This is where the train comes off the tracks. There are no maternity/paternity leave benefits, it is FMLA (unpaid leave if you are lucky) or absolutely nothing. HR does nothing to help and protect workers from harassment, discrimination, or ostracism. If you went to HR to get help for any issues it would put a huge target on your back. It’s sickening. In Inspection, our supervisor is hostile towards certain workers, would attempt to hurt workers, lacked communication skills, discriminated against specific workers, and would lie about you if he didn’t like you. He would single out/target those who would not suck up to him, as well as disregard safety protocols if they didn’t fit his agenda. We weren’t expected to have our own functioning lives outside of work and in his own words, “I’m 57 and I let work tell me what my life schedule is”. It’s sad to say as well, he was not qualified to start and/or finish the inspection process of any material that passed through the department. As much as I cared about my coworkers, I would not recommend this company to any colleagues, peers, or friends of mine as a place of fair employment. I encourage those who choose to pursue employment/careers here to be very wary of your friends and foes, as well as to not voice whether you are pregnant, or have another long term issue as you will be discriminated against.

Pros

Interesting work with (some) hard workers. Serious place to get real experience. Salaried employees receive a large 401k match.

Cons

Place is held together by critical staff working much harder than others, but don't expect many raises. Annual adjustments do not match inflation. Managers do not understand technical skills that set their staff apart and struggle to argue for raises when asked, losing this talent within a few years. Experience always outranks expertise (helps to be old). HR/Operations collaborate to underpay their hourly staff, keeping process changes that affect incentive pay out of union negotiations for as long as possible. HR can barely run Salaried payroll and will threaten you if you question their math (even when they owe you money). HR refuses to address racism/white supremacy within their hourly workforce.
