Pros
The People: I am on my second tour of duty at AT&T and what brought me back was the people. The talent and personalities that AT&T attracts are second to none. I personally do not like to mix my professional life with my personal life, but the people at AT&T have truly become good friends. Both groups that I have worked with are friendly smart and are eager to dive in and get things done. The environment is very collaborative and everyone has an opportunity to share their opinion. Management: The mid-level managers are smart and supportive and really seem to care about their employees and their career advancement. Technology: In the wireless space AT&T is really seeking to become the leader in cutting edge technology and it is a great place to work to see what is beyond the curve.
Cons
Number one reason to look elsewhere: The benefits suck, how they treat employees isn't the greatest. They seem not to understand the Seattle job market. I don't think they get it that with the crappy benefits soon those great smart people that make this place what it is will move on to greener pastures only leaving those who aren't competent enough to go elsewhere. Not to be necessarily snarky, but we only have catastrophic health insurance and no option to buy up to a better health care plan. Number two: Bureaucracy. The HR team is pretty much useless. To try to even get information about your horrible benefits you need to sign-in to about 100 different websites and call five different numbers. Number three: constant upheaval with mergers and acquisitions. AT&T is in the perpetual process of trying to incorporate different properties and create on culture and presence. This cause environment that is extremely siloed and which makes it very difficult to get cross-functional projects done.
