Pros

Extremely friendly environment, a lot of freedom

Cons

It's a family. But sometimes, a company NEEDS to be a company. The company is too good to its employees. So good that people exploit it. There are 5 people employed for the job of 2. There is abundant wastage of time by some, while some slave away from dusk till dawn. Also, there is a clear hierarchy. EVERYBODY knows this but management seems to conveniently overlook it.

Terrible company to work for

Pros

Pantry has good stuff usually

Cons

The biggest downfall of working at Crayon Data is that you will be working 'for' some really old people who try cheap little tricks to earn really less money- all of that would be done at your expense. Like not contributing the same amount to your PF, which is mandatory. That apart- you can be assured that all the shares/bonuses you are promised will definitely not be given to you in the end. The company seems to be short of money all the time- something the cofounders will constantly tell you. If you choose to believe them, then why would you work for a broke company and if you choose not to, then be sure they will be extracting money from your salary itself. They are basically a group of close knit people at the top who want to share the profits amongst themselves.

Thank you for the feedback. While we are really happy that you liked our well-stocked pantry, we were a little surprised by the fact that you called us unethical (and that our founders are 'old' - they actually prefer to be called 'mature', specially after successful careers as entrepreneurs for 25+ years:)). So here goes - Fact of life 1: We really can't play around with your PF. The government (and the audit teams) keep a pretty good check on that. We actually go a step further and give our employees the option to best cater to their financial situation - when they need more money in hand, we give them an option of lower PF, and when they are comfortable in day-to-day expenses, we help them save more for future and optimise taxes by putting more in the PF. If you need more info on this, reach out to us anytime and we'll show you how it works. Fact of life 2: Profits? We would love to be profitable - but lets face facts - we are a startup. We're broke a lot. We raise money, make some money, pay our people, develop our tech, stock our pantry and try to keep the cycle going. We're confident that we're going to get big and powerful some day, but till then - its a crazy roller coaster. At Crayon, we are committed to creating a transparent and collaborate environment for all our employees. While we are disappointed to hear about your experience, we are also willing to work with you to address any specific concerns.

Pros

1) Amazing founders to work with 2) Work from home privilege 3) Great salary package

Cons

1) The company is highly profit oriented to an extent where the comfort of the employees least matter 2) High incompetent, unqualified and inexperienced people as middle managers 3) High levels of nepotism can be visibly seen. You may be wondering how certain people even made it to that position 4) Variable pay never makes it in time. There is a delay in terms of months 5)Salaries are never credited in time. If you are lucky you won't even get it for a month 6)Employees' comfort and worries are of least concern to the organization. They are seen as work machines with no personal life which will churn results no matter what 7) There are people who completely lack professionalism and communication skills. 8)Insane / impossible targets and deadlines. You are expected to move a mountain with one hand tied and blindfolded 9) Rules are bent for you based on how much you are personally close to the people at upper echelons of management

Hello! Thank you for being direct. It's a trait that runs through us Crayons. We pride ourselves in being transparent and honest about our position, at all points in time. We grew 3x last year and were profitable. We’re also proud to reward our employees well and believe in putting forth whats due for top-class talent. We listen. We love being told how we could be better. Because we are open to suggestions, we’re getting a lot of things right. Our various committees, our flexible and responsive HR policies are clear evidence of this. Which is why the number of employees who’ve stayed for over 5 years is over 40% of our team. We’re proud they’ve stood by us. And we believe we are reciprocating. Sure, we have our challenges. especially with cashflows. Which startup doesn’t? But we reinvest every dollar we make in our vision and our people. We are bold to make commitments. And we make sure we keep them, even if we are a little late. If you had been at our quarterly Demo Day last week, you would have seen how proud people were of their work. How much collaboration there was within and across teams, and how strong the Crayon spirit is. We've taken note of your views. We also believe that ultimately in a lean organization like ours, the focus on performance will ensure high levels of competence. You’re spot on about our insane ambition. That means we set our sights high. And there’s pressure to get things done. That’s what start-ups are for. And the great thing is - that’s what's attracting top-notch talent continuously to Crayon. They can stand the heat in the kitchen. In fact, they seem to want it. We’re sorry to hear that you didn’t like that pressure. And we wish you well, where you are.
