Valuable learning opportunities hindered by poor structure and support

Pros

Fast-paced environment with exposure to many areas of the business. I learned a lot quickly, became more operationally adaptable, and gained experience wearing multiple hats in a startup setting.

Cons

Lack of role clarity and structure made it difficult to succeed long term. Leadership changes and constantly shifting priorities created a reactive environment where it was difficult to stay focused or build momentum. There was a strong “sink or swim” culture with limited coaching, feedback, or empowerment. Decision-making was highly centralized, which made it difficult for employees to take ownership or feel trusted to execute the work they were hired to do. Creative ideas were often shut down before being tested, leading to low morale, burnout, and high frustration across the team. The company struggled with boundaries, prioritization, and sustainable management practices. Overall, it felt like employee satisfaction and long-term development were secondary to immediate output.

Pros

Working at Contrarian Thinking has been a truly rewarding experience. The company fosters an environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and innovation. The leadership team, led by Codie Sanchez, is genuinely passionate about helping the community become financially free through acquisition.

Cons

While the fast-paced environment is exciting, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. Additionally, due to the high standards and emphasis on independent thinking, new employees' learning curve can be steep. This environment is for A players with high capacity, and it's not a fit for anyone who doesn't want to be challenged.

High Trust & High Autonomy.

Pros

There's a lot of freedom, respect, and autonomy. They trust the people they hire to get the job done at a very high level.

Cons

With high autonomy comes high expectations. If you are someone who needs a lot of external structure to do a good job, this probably isn't the company for you.
