Pros

The work location is supreme; the sands bars, the sunny Chatham weather, and the ocean air. The staff in the summer season is usually laden with college students on summer break, creating a fun and energetic work force. Most of the full-time hourly staff are amazing people work with and have a true passion for hospitality.

Cons

Management has zero commitment to the staff, especially seasonal staff. They promise you the world, and deliver on absolutely none of it. While turnover for employees tends to be high in hospitality and service industries, but CBI makes a mockery of fostering a team/family work environment. If you value yourself, the work you do, and the Guests you serve, CBI is not for you. With so much potential as a "Leading Hotel of the World", the property is anything put. The Guests are scammed into paying exorbitant rates and high prices for a level of service and professionalism that is just not there. This is not to say that the whole Management team is poor at CBI, there are several gems who value guest service and their staff above all else, including the bottom line. For the most part though, the service standards and level of professionalism to both Guests and employees alike is driven by the bottom line; it's a very sad thing to witness.

Pros

The money. Some of the staff are amazing. CBI doesn't know how lucky they are for those few special people who've managed to stay there.

Cons

The person above this says it all. Read the cons, they are exactly right. I don't think Chatham Bars Inn has any respect for employees or guests. It's all about the name and everyone is completely out for themselves. Every department is full of back stabbers, gossip and drama. Yes, every place had this, but CBI especially. Take this as a warning. You may be a seasonal staff and enjoy the summer/party life too much on your time off, or maybe you'll be too hungover to even notice the issues at CBI, but they are there. Be careful if you scratch the surface, try to be promoted, or try to speak your mind.

Pros

Honestly one of the best jobs I ever had. I began working at CBI as a summer job when I was in college. Miladin the head of the valet department runs a world class valet team that continuously provides five star service to guests. When I first started I was an introvert and it was difficult to approach people. But, Miladin saw my potential and pushed me to better myself. I am now extroverted when I need to be and that has helped a lot since I graduated college. The employees all have diverse backgrounds with a majority of them coming to work from overseas. They are all super nice and who know you might meet your future wife. As a valet your day consists of parking luxury spots cars, assisting guests by move their luggage to their rooms and providing guests a shuttle service too and from town and other areas. I still keep in contact with the people I worked with and consider them to be some of my closest friends.

Cons

Every guest has different levels of service employees are expected to provide. But with that being said you are often rewarded for assisting difficult guests and they will come back year after year because of your hard work you put in day after day. Often times you are limited in what words you can say by Forbes standards. Employees are expected to change their rhetoric to meet those standards. An example of this is “how may I help you” to “how may I assist you” and you cannot say hello or goodbye. This often times makes employees feel like robots and is difficult for beginning English learners. I think Forbes should change this because I believe the words you say do not impact the service you provide.
