Pros

Pay is competitive, but becoming less so over time.

Cons

Beigene is a vicious, toxic, abusive company that you should avoid at all costs. Good people may get hired and give you false hope but a toxic culture eventually brings out the worst in everybody. The cloud of toxicity that comes from senior leadership cannot be escaped and will permeate not only your work life, but your personal life. It’s a culture of anxiety and 2nd guessing, where things can’t go smoothly because they’re not allowed to go smoothly. Senior leadership will not lead through inspiration, motivation, and support. It will lead through ego, demands, belittling, disrespect, and intimidation. You are not being hired to think. They are laughably bad at leadership. The CEO talks the talk but those a layer or two beneath him fail to live up to what he promises. Communication is a disaster at nearly every level. Upper management’s approach is to never communicate whatsoever and suddenly expect you to have read their mind or to micromanage you. There’s no in between. This holds for every function: biostats, clinops, clin dev… all of them. It stems straight from the CMOs and VPs. Management will contradict itself. You’ll be given opposing instructions by your superiors. End result: no matter what you do, you were wrong. There is no development plan here: you are being hired as a warm body with no guidance or a glorified assistant to some micromanaging, egotistical VP BeiGene will start gaslighting you the minute you arrive. Better to stay away.

Fine if you like working weird hours

Pros

Innovative, nice pipeline, good mission.

Cons

Constant meetings at off hours for the majority of the day. If you don’t speak Chinese it’s a perpetual disadvantage. China members are making most of the decisions with no global experience to lead resulting in ill formed strategies. Systems and processes are not set up to be efficient or effective. High turnover due to hiring of incompetent and under qualified staff who are title seekers and not fit for this kind of working environment.

Toxic Environment

Pros

Free food/snacks/beverages. Spacious offices, casual attire.

Cons

Toxic work environment. Incompetent micro-managers are tolerated (HR doesn't do a thing) and managers have their own agendas and want a sea of yes men. Professional individuals will be pushed out with bad falsified reviews, poor performance and bullied. Expect unreasonably long hours without recognition, reward or even a thank you. Discourtesy as in a third world country is to be expected (Chinese company). Managers are all about self promotion for titles and $$. Employment is a revolving door with this company - they're hiring all the time while people are leaving just as quickly. There's no employee retention thought process other then the bottom line. Forget about going to HR who are equally worthless in advising one to seek clarification from their manager. If the manager is the problem - what then? Yes, this is not a long term employment company.
