Pros

Offers recent university grads experience, but the false promise of opportunities ultimately leads to a waste of time as well as a manipulative and cheap approach to performance evaluation.

Cons

This company uses fear mongering (including the Luka Magnotta murder, 9/11, and news stories about rape) in its internal and external communication to promote its product. It promotes itself as a Canadian company but is unabashedly outsourcing its work to Mumbai and the Philippines. There are few to no attempts to fairly compensate employees or retain them.

Pros

Pay for schooling related to human resources

Cons

I found that working at BackCheck was nothing like what I thought it would be. For starters, the pay is horrible - $14 an hour for the work that HR Interviewers do is just pathetic. Also, the benefits are bare-bones. You do not get to choose your benefits & they are very basic. Something you will learn early on is that you are always on the clock. You literally have to scan your hand every time you sign in & out. You only get a half-hour lunch and breaks are at your own discretion. During training, our trainer would always be on our case about making sure we did not work more or less than we were supposed to (even if we were off by a few minutes here & there). Also, the work environment is somewhat depressing. I noticed a lot of the employees did not seem to enjoy working there, but they stayed with the company hoping something better would come along. From what I gathered during my time there though, opportunities for advancement are few & far between, despite what you are lead to believe during the interview and during training. I definitely didn't see myself moving up within the organization & received a better opportunity shortly after starting this position, so I took that. Looking back, I know I made the right choice!

Pros

Awesome co-workers, possible to grow within the company. Good for recent graduates, and good for English speakers.

Cons

Management constantly measure work by productivity goals and quality to the point that you feel like if you mess up on thing your job is on the line. Once the company was bought and they did mass layoffs in Montreal, the quality and productivity went up in the office from a lack of constant pressure.
