      Senior DevOps Engineer Interview

      17 Jul 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at pMD

      Interview

The interview process went really well. I highly respected the recruiter and her engagement throughout the entire process. The interview process began with a normal phone screen from the recruiter. It then went into a technical screening. Questions were technical in nature and the interviewer was looking for a good conversation about past experience. Interviewer was knowledgable. It then had a behavioral interview. The interview looked into responses to certain situations and dived more into background. Again the interviewer was knowledgable and welcoming to talk to. Finally, I was brought on site for a half day interview panel. This was very enjoyable. Began by meeting the recruiter and seeing the office. Then a breakfast to meet the team followed by a panel interview. This consisted of technical and behavioral questions. The interviewers again were knowledgable. welcoming, and patient during the entire interview. Besides the interview, they paid for my travel and hotel! It was an amazing experience to go through. The recruiter was very good with setting everything up and keeping constant communication. I would highly recommend giving pMD a chance!

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at pMD (San Francisco, CA) in Oct 2019

      Interview

This was an incredibly enjoyable process, possibly the best recruiting processes I have ever experienced. The recruiter was very knowledgable, present, efficient, and committed throughout the roughly two-weeks from when I first applied through the final stages. I applied via the company website, and the recruiter reached out the next day to setup an initial phone screening. This was a one hour conversation consisting of behavioral questions, my background, what I was looking for at pMD, etc. Shortly after the initial phone call, I was invited to an hour and a half technical interview with the Engineering Manager. This was also a phone call, consisting mostly of architectural and conceptual questions. There was also a more hands-on portion of this interview, where I was asked to do some coding exercises in a Google Doc. Some topics for this portion included basic coding, SQL, Linux fundamentals, etc. The final phone call was an hour and a half talk with the VP of Engineering about pMD as a whole, cultural fit, career aspirations, and several behavioral questions. This was a great capstone to the phone interviews and was very conversational in nature. Shortly after the final phone call, the recruiter reached out with an invitation to join the company on-site in their San Fransisco office for a final panel interview. This was a half day engagement, starting with a tour of the office and lunch with members of the team, where I got to ask questions about working at pMD. After lunch, I had an interview with all three individuals I had previously spoken with throughout the process. This final interview was about three hours long and included a mix of behavioral and technical questions in no particular order. Some technical questions required whiteboard diagramming or explanation through examples. The final portion of this interview included a role-playing scenario where I worked with a pMD customer. The next morning I got a call from the recruiter with an offer, which I was happy to accept. Each individual I interacted with throughout the recruiting process was very kind, patient, and professional, and every interview I had left me more impressed with and interested in pMD. The process was intensive, which is indicative of the team's commitment to hiring. However despite the many interviews I had, the company moved through the process very quickly and efficiently and never let things drag on or linger unnecessarily. Overall, this was a great recruiting experience, and other companies should take note!
