I applied online and was emailed by an out of state HR representative. It went well and she passed me on to a panel interview. It ended up being an interview with the hiring manager that launched straight into a technical interview. I felt blindsided so it took a question or two to find my footing. Having conducted 100s of interviews myself the hiring manager could definitely use some training on how to conduct an interview. No clarifying questions, not follow-up questions, and unwillingness to answer clarifying questions. etc.
