      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Zyte in Oct 2025

      Interview

I submitted my application through the company website and was subsequently contacted by a recruiter—I was not entirely clear on their specific HR title or role within the organization. Following a brief initial conversation reviewing my experience, the primary focus quickly shifted to my salary expectations and my current capacity to write code. As a candidate for a Head of QA position, my priority would have been to engage in a deeper discussion about the strategic challenges the QA department is currently facing. While coding proficiency is important, it is typically not the central concern for a leader in this role. Coding Assignment and Follow-Up For the technical assessment, I was asked to submit code to my GitHub repository within a four-hour timeframe. Despite delivering the required code, and re-contacting the recruiter, I have not received any feedback on my submission. While I have no issue with a structured coding challenge, the subsequent lack of professional follow-up is disappointing. I had somewhat anticipated this outcome, but it certainly does not reflect a professional approach to the recruitment process. Final Impression My overall impression is that the company is aiming to onboard talent at the lowest cost possible. Given the remote working setup, this approach may be aimed at broadening the talent pool while minimizing compensation. Based on public reviews, this appears to be a smaller company that generates revenue primarily through web data scraping and service provision. I believe their business model will face significant pressure with the evolution of AI technologies. Moving forward, I hope to see industry hiring practices shift toward valuing specialized expertise and leadership rather than focusing solely on cost reduction.

      Interview

I was contacted by the recruiter. At the beginning, I received a presentation about the company, which I found very useful, since we didn’t have to waste time answering the obvious questions. The interview went well, and we agreed that I was a good fit for the position. I instantly received a take-home exercise, which was very interesting, and I loved completing it. I finished it in two days, even though there was no deadline. I sent the solution, including the link to the code and everything needed. I received a “Thanks, we got it — we’ll get back to you soon with the evaluation” email. Since then, not a single word — it’s like they disappeared into the vast network of the internet. I sent a follow-up message to ask about the status and whether there was any update, but I didn’t receive a reply. They completely disappeared. For me, it was a very negative experience. Ghosting someone is, I think, the ugliest gesture you can get. The position has probably been filled, because it disappeared from their website. If they had simply told me that I wasn’t a good match, I would have been absolutely fine with that. But this ghosting is disgusting.

HR, Homework, and I don't know the rest as even though one creates the homework exactly as requested, still get a rejection as they secretly hoped for more code will be added (automation test), which was NOT part of the task, and as didn't happen, sorry, bye... In other words, they treat candidates like trash.
