      React Software Developer Interview

      21 Jan 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at YAPI

      Interview

Not a good experience. A couple of back-and-forth emails to set up the first phone call with a non technical employee. They had virtually no knowledge of the role I was applying to, so they couldn't answer any technical questions (understandable, I guess), or even the make-up of the team (iirc). In fact, the person sounded like they were reading from a script. Definitely didn't feel like a conversation. They kept telling me I could ask my technical questions from the technical staff (makes sense, I suppose). Still, most companies should have recruiting staff that have at least a basic understanding of the role. I figured the interview with the technical team would have more weight, but nope. Didn't even get to that point. They somehow concluded that I was not fit for the position, likely because I told them (in an honest way) that I was let go from my last company, and explained why. I suppose they didn't like that, and automatically concluded that I wouldn't be a good fit. Companies that judge you in this way (where they don't bother assessing your technical skills and experience) are not companies that are worth your time. And looking at other technical interviews on here, it sounds like they don't have the best culture. You are better off looking elsewhere.

      Interview

Lots of red flags when interviewing with this company. They asked me a lot of questions that weren't relevant to the position, none of questions were very technical. Very simple interview however they determine if you are qualified by your years of experience and education. The interviewer lacked a proper understanding of the technology for the position so they may resort to asking you personal questions that aren't relevant to your skills like questions about your personal life. The process took very long 3 months and they only performed 2 interviews with me. 1 in person and one over the phone.

      Question 1

This is not a remote position, they asked if I would be comfortable coming in daily M-F. Based on my previous experience, employers who have a hard requirement on attendance have a tendency to micromanage.
