      Senior Game Programmer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at YAGER Development in Nov 2024

      Interview

The process had several stages. First, my technical skills were assessed - nothing too complicated, just C++ and Unreal Engine questions, along with some classic game development problem-solving. After that came the more interesting part: a three-stage interview process with different people, each focusing on different values. These were mainly behavioral questions. I strongly suggest actually spending time preparing well for these. Expect to delve deep into your experience and how you have dealt with challenges in the past. The interviewers were quite friendly, and you also get plenty of opportunities to ask them a ton of questions. However, I made the mistake of not preparing well enough for some questions or not answering as clearly as I could have, which led to negative feedback. But to my surprise, they actually conducted a separate review session just to go over exactly what went wrong and which areas I could improve on. This has literally never happened before. In my experience, companies usually either lose interest instantly and ghost, or they use generic phrases that don’t really tell you much - leaving you to guess what exactly went wrong. But Yager handled it differently, and I really appreciate that. I’ve had plenty of interviews over the past three months, and nothing has come close to that level of insight. I feel extremely grateful for this experience. It helped me a lot. Instead of just picking up bits and pieces of feedback here and there, I got a complete breakdown of my areas for improvement. Huge props to them. I didn’t make it in the end, which is unfortunate, but I still gained a lot from the process. I'm pleasantly surprised to find a company that handles interviews differently.
