      Manager Finance Interview

      4 Sept 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Eden Prairie, MN
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at UnitedHealth Group (Eden Prairie, MN) in Jul 2019

      Interview

The initial phone screen with HR was brief, mainly to determine if I had the basic core skills for the position. The first in-person interview was held on-site one week later. The interview was with a leader of the department. It lasted one hour. We discussed my experience and skills. She seemed rushed at the end as she wanted to get to lunch. My second interview was less than 2 weeks later. I met with another leader of the department and the head of the department. I was scheduled to meet with each of them for 30 minutes. One of the interviewers came in and immediately stated she had not looked at my resume prior to our interview. She spent 10 minutes explaining the interview process. She then spent another 5 minutes describing her role. She was not experienced with interviewing. The 15 minutes I was able to interact consisted of questions regarding my work experiences. The other interviewer at least had looked at my resume prior to meeting. He asked many of the same questions I had answered previously, which was fine. He seemed overly interested in my beginning work experience out of school 20+ years ago, which had very little in common to what I have been doing the past 14 years (then Accounting, now Finance). I was told I would hear back by the end of that week or early the following week. By the end of the following week I hadn’t heard anything so I emailed the HR contact ( as none of the interviewers provided their contact information). I heard back from the HR contact 2 days later stating they would know by the end of that week. I heard nothing that week or for 4 more weeks. Obviously common sense said I wasn’t getting an offer. I finally received an automated email saying “ great news! Your status has changed in the system! Check out the link for more info”. Or something to that effect (it absolutely said “great news!”). I went out to my profile on their career portal and it said I was no longer being considered for the position. After going to 2 on-site interviews, a candidate deserves more respect than what UHG showed me. I deserved to know how the position was filled and I deserved to know in a more timely fashion. Saying I would hear in a week at most and not hearing anything for close to 6 weeks was unacceptable. Having a system generated email finally providing the update was offensive, especially considering it started out with “great news!”. Also the director who interviewed me needs more training on how to interview as she did most of the talking. For a Fortune 6 company I expected a greater level of professionalism and finesse with their interview process.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

We discussed my background and experience. There were no behavioral interview questions. It was more of an open dialogue -when I was able to speak.
