      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at UnitedHealth Group (San Antonio, TX) in Feb 2012

      Interview

I have never jumped through so many hoops and wasted my time as I did with this company. I applied online for two customer service positions. You fill out the app online and then take a personality test - about a 2 hr process altogether. I got an email to schedule an onsite assessment test but every day for a week I would go into the link and there were no available times. Finally I was able to schedule the assessment on a Monday for the CCR/Claims position. The onsite assessment consisted of a virtual customer service test where you take 4 phone calls for 4 diff types of companies and navigate around the screens to choose your answer to the customers' questions via a mutliple choice format. They are testing your listening skills and ability to type in info the customer is giving you and seeing how you'll respond. I have done this very same test for another company so I was familiar with the set up. Then you do another personality test with approx 35-40 questions. That was on Monday. Then Tuesday an HR rep called & I was thinking they were going to schedule an interview but he just wanted for me to come in and take the onsite assessment test for the other customer svs position as the assessments were slightly different. I scheduled to come in on Wed morning. I went Wed morning, sat through the assessment instructions again and then I had to do the same, and I mean the EXACT same, 35-40 personality questions again, there was no difference from the test I did the day before. When I was done he asked if I did the Customer Service portion and I answered that the system took me straight to the questions - maybe because I just did the Customer Service test on Monday??? He checked his computer and said "Oh yeah, you passed everything already." As he walked me out he asked if I could come back that same afternoon for an interview, of course I said yes. So I had come in at 11am for 20 minutes to do what I had already done before and now I have to drive back home to come back at 5pm for an interview-but I felt at least I passed everything and that was a good sign. I came back at 5pm and had a 1:1 interview with an HR rep. Took about 45 min. where they went over my past positions and a few situation questions. It went very well and I was scheduled to come back Friday morning at 9am to meet with the hiring mgrs. Came back Friday am and interviewed with two hiring mgrs - all situation type questions. They were very nice and said that I should hear back very soon as the position was starting in two weeks. I felt again that it went very well. All the next week I heard nothing and all they give you is a generic HR phone # and email to use in case you had to cancel/reschedule your interview so you can't contact them personally. Finally during the week before I knew the class was beginning I resigned myself to the fact that they weren't calling back because I know they do extensive background checks and drug screening before hiring and they would have had to start that process - and I was right. Never heard anything. After a week of driving back and forth and rescheduling other appts so I could jump through their hoops I was left hanging. For me, this has been the most unorganized, unprofessional interview/hiring process I have ever been through. **And just a side note-I thoroughly went through their web site before my interviews to know the company and their mission is "To help people live healthier lives" yet every time I went to my appts and was sitting in my car (because I always arrive early) you'll see their employees coming out and standing at their main driveway way smoking cigarettes and throwing the butts in the street. They have two other "side" driveways, but the employees stand out at the main driveway to smoke their cigarettes on their breaks and just toss the butts in the streets. Way to show how your employees live your co. mission UHG! And way to litter our streets with disgusting cigarette butts. (Sorry, I just had to throw that in because it bugged me so much. I didn't bring up in any of the interviews obviously, but I had certainly planned on bringing it up if I had gotten hired.) Good luck to all of you. If you make it in, I'm sure it's much better - at least I hope so. :)
