First, I went through a phone interview, which seemed OK, but the interviewer was distracted and walking around (she had me on speakerphone). I asked her about the position and what I could offer. Her answer: "We need people in the pipeline who can fill in quickly where there's a need." This was a semi-red flag for me, but she told me I'd hear back by the end of the week.
Two weeks later, past her deadline, I get an email inviting me in for a second interview. I accepted (despite growing hesitation). It took her four days to give me a day and time, and an additional week (the day before the interview) to send me details.
After settling into the interview, there was a fire drill that interrupted our conversation. Then, when we returned, the interviewers asked me why I had applied and stated that they didn't think it was the right fit for my experience. I am a very qualified mid-career educator. I asked them why they even invited me in; they blamed the recruiter. I stopped the interview and thanked them for their time.
After this series of missteps, I would never work for this company. Ever.
Another note: during the fire drill, I looked around at a sea of mostly white faces. They are probably all very talented, but I hesitate to assume that this group is able to fully meet the needs of the diverse population they serve.
This is not a positive culture.
