      Supplier Relations Manager Interview

      10 Sept 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Atlanta, GA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Stord (Atlanta, GA) in Jun 2019

      Interview

I interviewed for the Supplier Relations Manager role. After interviewing with 9 employees (2 individual phone screens & 2 in-person meetings), I was sent a generic rejection email. I followed up with the manager of the role to ask for feedback, and we connected over the phone. The reasoning he gave me was that it “takes a special kind of female” to work with difficult warehouse managers and ultimately the STORD team did not believe I could be effective in this aspect of the job. This reasoning left a terribly negative impression with me. Knowing my gender was taken into account and that STORD basically caved to the sexism in the warehousing industry left me with peace that I wouldn’t be working for them. STORD’s team is heavily male-dominated, so it’s unfortunate that they did not see potential in coaching a female to work with warehouse managers who would not have treated me the same as a male in this role. I realize that I am not entitled to a position with STORD, and if I did not meet the qualifications for the SRM role then I fully respect that. Yet, given the sole reason I was provided with for not being hired was that it takes “a special kind of female” to be effective in the role, I feel compelled to express my negative experience here for other candidates to take into consideration. I would hate for another candidate to be evaluated with her gender taken into account.

Hello - this is Sean Henry, the co-founder/CEO at STORD. First, I wanted to extend a sincere thank you for providing this feedback so that we can solve this and prevent it from happening in the future. As a founder, I couldn’t be more thankful for each and every candidate that takes a chance on Stord. Your time and effort throughout the interview process are extremely valued. As part of that, each candidate deserves a fair, unbiased, and timely process. From the start, we have tried to be extremely intentional about our hiring process to ensure each candidate receives a fair experience and to build a diverse talent pool and team. We have multiple on-site interviews (hiring manager, peer, and core value interviews), we build out role scorecards to ensure each interviewer knows what they are looking for in a candidate, and we collect detailed feedback from each individual involved in the interview. This process is designed to remove individual biases from our interviewing process. However, there is room for error in the process and sometimes these issues can slip through the cracks. I want to assure you that the feedback you received does not represent our beliefs as a company. We examined the situation and have taken immediate corrective action with this team and hiring manager. Additionally, we are working to build more processes and training on our team to prevent anything like this from happening moving forward. Thank you again for taking a chance on Stord and thank you for the feedback. I am terribly sorry that you experienced this. From a people and process perspective, we are doing everything we can to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future.
