ESG Controversy Assessment Test – Summary
This test assesses candidates for the ESG Controversy Research Specialist role at S&P Global’s MSA team. It uses two real-world cases—Repsol’s 2025 oil spill in Spain and Mattel’s Fisher-Price sleeper-linked infant deaths—to evaluate core ESG research skills.
Each case has three parts:
A. Description (30 pts): Write a concise, factual narrative (max 4,000 characters) outlining key events.
B. Impact Assessment (40 pts): Analyze company involvement, environmental/social impact, stakeholder concerns, and reputational effects.
C. Company Response (30 pts): Evaluate remediation efforts and suggest improvements.
Candidates must cite credible sources and follow a structured, objective format. A sample narrative is provided as a guide. The test emphasizes analytical rigor, ESG materiality, and clarity in controversy reporting.
