I applied in-person. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Publix (Jacksonville, FL) in Dec 2008
Interview
I was interviewed by the Asst store manager and hired as a baker making $10.00 hourly based on my previous experience. The next day I received a phone call from the store manager who said I must "re-interview" for the position. I went in the next day and was interviewed by the store manager who said I lacked "retail" experience and therefore could not be hired as a Baker at $10.00 an hour. He stated the Asst store manager "made a mistake" when she offered me the position of baker at $10.00 an hour. I was then told I would be hired as a Baker Apprentice at $8.50 an hour. I took the position with a promise from both store and asst store managers that I would be "fast tracked" to advancement to baker and then on to a position in management. I have 3 years with the company and have yet to receive the proper training needed to have a chance to be promoted into a management position.

It took a while but it was very long and easy I must say then they put me on the job the next day. The job sometimes can be challenging depending on the type of customer you get some can be basic and easy and some can be hard and challenging
Interview was a mix of generic questions like strengths and weaknesses and reliability questions and that kind of thing and then more specific questions about my experience with the specific job.
