I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Pier 1 Imports in Sept 2011
Interview
I walked into the store and asked to speak to the hiring manager. The store manager greeted me with a smile, and told me that they were accepting applications for seasonal employees and gave me a paper application as well as instructions for the online pre-advisor that needed to be done to complete the application. I turned in the application and completed the online portion and within a week, I was called to come in for an interview.
I had a one on one interview with the store manager in her office. She was using a standard form of questions and took notes while I answered her questions. She asked me about my availability, why I chose to apply at Pier 1, and asked me sales scenario questions about customer service.
After she finished with the questionnaire, she gave me feedback on my replies, noting how she translated what I said into what she saw in me as an applicant. She then offered me the position after the interview and I accepted. She gave me a date the following week to come in to complete the hiring paperwork and start training.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
After handing me a glass vase that was in her office, she asked "How would you approach a customer who is looking at this item while shopping in the store, and how could you add on to the sale?"
I interviewed at Pier 1 Imports (Fort Collins, CO)
Interview
It was about 30 minutes long. The manager asked me basic questions about myself and the job. He wanted to know my availability and if I were able to unload the truck due to the boxes being heavy.
Simple and transparent process. After applying, was asked to come in to interview in person. Interview was professional and took around 45 minutes. Heard back from hiring manager within a week.
