      Software Engineer Python Interview

      21 Mar 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at PerformLine in Mar 2023

      Interview

A second round on-site interview was scheduled then canceled due to an unexpected event popping up on the interviewer's calendar. I guess that just meant rescheduling for an interview, but that's most likely their way of declination. Why? They did not reschedule an interview but send a rejection later. I felt deceived

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

An Online Assessment using Python came first. Then, the first round was a regular conversation and discussion about the online assessment work.

I want to apologize again for having to cancel your on-site interview. The person you were meeting with needed to get out to Salt Lake City on a very last minute but urgent trip and the timing impacted your interview. We had a few folks in end stages at the time and the hiring manager ended up choosing another candidate before being able to reschedule your meeting. I realize this experience was not up to par with our norms and I am sorry you felt deceived. If you'd like to reach out to discuss, the team would be happy to talk through any questions or feedback you have around the way this particular situation felt. We will work to provide better insight and communication channels if a situation like this ever arises again. Thank you for your feedback, wishing you the best.

      I interviewed at PerformLine

      Interview

Bad interview process. Head recruiter not communicative, no clear rounds. Hiring Manager who's been with the company for 10+ years doesn't seem to be innovative. Did the Tech assessment round, aced it and was told the role was closed. Their industry seems lackluster. Everyone I talked to didnt seem engaged. Very slow growth "startup". At a better spot now, glad I dodged a bullet going to this place.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why are you leaving? What is your team size? How are tickets assigned? Tell me about a time you had to make a decision.

Thank you for sharing this feedback with the team. We operate on a rolling basis and this role was filled before you were able to reach the end stages. We are not a start up, but our YoY revenue growth has been 30-50% or more and we doubled our team size last year. Given these growth rates, we do move quickly and it seems the timing simply didn't align in this instance. I am glad you were able to find a role you enjoy - everyone deserves to love what they do and where they do it! I was able to go back and confirm we were transparent with all candidates in initial stages for this role around the steps of the process as well as ensuring we connected with each candidate every two business days to avoid folks feeling ghosted. I will be sure to continue holding high standards here and appreciate that you also value this aspect of recruiting.
