I applied online and then had a face-to-face interview in Oxford.
I noticed that the office space, meeting room, and some of the equipment looked quite old. The interview itself was fairly standard, although the line manager arrived late. Because the start was slightly delayed, there was little time for me to ask questions. I was only able to ask one before we had to leave the meeting room.
I didn't feel like OUP was a particularly dynamic organisation. The interview questions hinted at technology projects that move slowly, require sign-off at multiple stage gates, and which lack a clear objective. The were extremely slow to contact me with a decision - over 5 weeks. I have never known an organisation to be so slow in this regard. It only further compounded my original impression.
I was declined for the role as I didn't have budget experience to the required level, which is fair. I can't recall if this was in the advert or not but, if it wasn't, it should have been!
Overall, OUP struck me as a slow-moving organisation with an unclear (perhaps messy) internal structure. Be aware of that before you accept any offer.
