They were looking to replace a manager who was retiring. The entire process took about 5 months. The initial interview was with the person I would be replacing, then about 6 weeks later I was interviewed by the team. It was pleasant, but very confusing as I had no idea who was who and who did what. I expected a third interview with the hiring manager (the ED), but that didn't happen. Instead, I was contacted my the recruiter with an offer. I had to ask him who my manager would be, and he seemed surprised that I hadn't spoken to her. Apparenty she had been in the team interview (all over the phone), but everyone was just introduced on a first-name basis at that time, and she didn't take any sort of lead in that interview. I had no one-on-one contact with my hiring manager until my first day on the job, which was, in retrospect, a red flag that I wish I had paid attention to at the time.
